As the United Nations launched its Sustainable Development Agenda for 2030, and celebrated at the Humanitarian Summit the halving of extreme poverty in the world, we got slapped with a shocking report from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics on the situation of unemployment in the Gaza Strip. Instead of witnessing an improvement in poverty and unemployment rates, we are seeing extremely high levels of unemployment which strikes the dreams of young Gazans and shatters their hopes.

The Egyptian authorities on Tuesday morning backtracked on a Monday promise to stretch the opening of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza for a few more days.

Reporting from Gaza, a PIC news correspondent said the Egyptian authorities officially updated the Palestinian side that the crossing will be closed as of Tuesday and in both directions.

Thousands of humanitarian cases, among them patients and students, have been left stuck at Rafah crossing point as a result of the abrupt closure.

The Egyptian authorities on Tuesday evening opened the Rafah border crossing in one direction for the return of stranded Palestinian passengers to Gaza.

Local sources said that the crossing was opened for a few hours after passengers seeking to enter Gaza crowded in large numbers on the Egyptian side of the border.

Scores of Palestinian passengers on Tuesday afternoon were forced to go back to Gaza following an Egyptian decision not to extend the opening of the crossing for more days.

The legal advisor to the Israeli occupation government has approved the expropriation of a land that is a private property in the West Bank in order to use them for settlement expansion.

Israel said it is attempting to legalize the expropriation of some 45 dunams of privately owned Palestinian land that is located in boundaries with the the illegal West Bank settlement of Ofra north of Ramallah and they announced it was initially seized by mistake, according to Haartez.

The Italian Government and UN Women signed an agreement on Tuesday at the Italian Consulate in Jerusalem for a new programme to promote women’s equal access to economic opportunities and decent work in Palestine.
